Fraser Island - The Natural Experience |
|
World Heritage listed Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island and has a sub-tropical climate with temperatures averaging
27°C in the summer and 23°C in the winter.
You will never be bored on this magnificent island - sweeping pristine beaches, picturesque sand tracks, an amazing beach highway
for 4WD vehicles, walks in the rainforest, bird watching, fresh water lakes to swim in and to picnic beside, bush walking, guided
tours, hire your own 4WD, visit a shipwreck - there is so much to see and do!
From August to November you can see the magnificent humpback whales, which come to the placid waters of Hervey Bay to rest
and play. Hervey Bay is recognised internationally as a whale watching area. There are many experienced boat operators offering
a variety of whale watching tours which leave from Urangan Boat Harbour.
The Fraser Coast is a 3½ hour drive, or a 35 minute flight from Brisbane, Queensland's capital. Qantas has several daily
flights from Brisbane to Hervey Bay connecting with interstate flights.
The major coach companies have daily services from Brisbane - as does Queensland Rail, with the fast Tilt Train. Fraser Island can be accessed by vehicular barge
and by fast catamaran.
