World Heritage listed Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island and has a sub-tropical climate with temperatures averaging 27°C in the summer and 23°C in the winter.

The Fraser Coast is a 3½ hour drive, or a 35 minute flight from Brisbane, Queensland's capital. Qantas has several daily flights from Brisbane to Hervey Bay connecting with interstate flights.

The major coach companies have daily services from Brisbane - as does Queensland Rail, with the fast Tilt Train. Fraser Island can be accessed by vehicular barge and by fast catamaran.
